Simone Betchen is a practicing neurosurgeon in Brooklyn, NY since 2006. While running a busy practice, Dr. Betchen has started diverse new programs to serve the hospital and community. She started a webinar for younger women looking to become neurosurgeons with an all-female speaker panel quarterly; a pipeline program for students to shadow doctors in the hospital from underrepresented minority backgrounds; and started a Maimonides Neurosurgery Diversity Research Grant to help fund students doing research within Neurosurgery.
Among her industry affiliations, she is Secretary of the Brooklyn Long Island Chapter of the American College of Surgeons, former Treasurer of the chapter; Treasurer of the Association of Women Surgeons, former member services committee chair; and guest editor for World Neurosurgery.
She holds M.B.A. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, an M.D. from Johns Hopkins school of medicine, and a B.A. in Biological Basis of Behavior from the University of Pennsylvania with various honors. She has been board certified to practice Neurosurgery since 2009.
